Support for technical training of female adolescents in “maría Madre de Dios” children's home, in Bonao

Characteristics of project

Location: Barrio las Delicias - Bonao

Local partner: AMICO (Religious order of nuns Amistad Misionera en Cristo Obrero)

Justification: The high number of undesired pregnancies combined with conditions of economic proverty of many families and premature mothers in the Dominican Republic causes a high rate of neglect and abandoning of children who survive in the streets of the poorest suburbs of the country. The Girls´s home María Madre de Dios, managed by the religious order AMICO, is home to 36 children and abandoned teenagers or in situation of serious physical or psychological vulnerability. All of them require assistence, support and technical formation in order to develop their skills and improve chances for the future. Since the Home owns land but no classrooms for specific formation, the project plans to build and equip two classrooms for training in hairdressing and manicure.

Objetives: Facilitate better working opportunities for children and teenagers living in the Girls´s Home María Madre de Dios.

  1. Facilitate technical formation of the teenagers living in the Home María Madre de Dios
