Strengthening the health and education work for 20 UAINAs (Comprehensive Nutritional Care Units for children under 6 years in Cochabamba)

Location: 20 rural communities of the Canton Palca Sacaba Municipality, Province Chapare (Cochabamba Department)

Local partner: "San Lucas of Cochabamba" Foundation

Justification: The UAINAS have been running for several years in 20 rural communities of Palca Canton and now is necessary to strengthen three aspects of their daily operation. These are:

  • A new training for 49 educators of the UAINA.
  • The annual food budget for the UAINA to ensure proper nutrition for children  assisted.
  • Ensure medical and dentistry assistance and education for 449 children beneficiaries of the UAINA.

Specific target: To reduce neglect, child morbidity, mortality and malnutrition in 20 rural indigenous communities in the province of Chapare.

Activities:

  1. 10 training workshops (one per month), taking a day, for all educators.
  2. A workshop for assessing the operation of UAINAS.
  3. Nutritional daily supply, controlled and regulated, for children.
  4. Weekly weight control of children assisted at the UAINAS
  5. Bimonthly size control for children attending the UAINAS.
  6. Quarterly check-up for Children at each centre.
  7. Control and dental care for every child who comes to the 20 centres.
  8. Maintenance of First Aid kit in each UAINA.
  9. Psychomotricity dynamics and education for 449 children.

Target population

  • Direct:  449 children
  • Indirect: 20 rural communities in Palca Canton, Municipality of Sacaba, Province of Chapare (Department of Cochabamba)

Project duration: 12 months

Budget: 113.307,52 €

Funding:  TAU and San Lucas of Cochabamba Foundation.
