Location: Municipality of Aguilares
Local Partner: CORDES (Association Foundation for cooperation and common development in Salvador)
Justification: Drinking water availability in Salvador is quite restricted. This is a fact that gets worse when talking about water quality. In Aguilares community there is a 60% of people who don´t have any drinking water. The rest of people having had available water, are making use of a bad quality one in an average of 80% and only for a short daily period of time between 1-2 hours. As a result of this situation, , local people have to use polluted water from whatever kind of sources they can find like artesian wells, rivers and water private suppliers among others, which don´t have any quality and sanitary control. Families in this area with low salaries are being affected in their economies because they have to pay a high price ( 1 € /0'23 m3) for the water they are making use of, not only for drinking but for housekeeping too. What is more, there have been many health problems among children and the more vulnerable population after using this bad quality water.
